330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.6%, 40 IBU. Black colour, large tan head. Aroma of roast malts and mild coffee, hints of dark chocolate and smoke. Soft mouthfeel. Soft flavour too, with the same elements as the aroma. Decent hops. Good beer.

a little bit of everything in this german oddity, elements of bock, porter, schwarzbier, its all here, a tough one to define, but really flavorful and good. deep brown in color with some evident viscosity and a short lived tan head from the bottle. cool art on the label here! aroma and flavor are rich and roasty, some english crystal maltiness in there as well it seems, sweet in the center, baked and hearty alongside the bitter earthen roast, almost charred there, very deep. cool nuance through it though from raisin to toasted chestnut to bitter raw cocoa, and leather. the yeast is hard for me to identify. on the one hand, its obviously classically german, but then its got lager properties to it, namely the flavor, but also some of the finishing dryness and maturity it has instilled. there is an ale yeast essence too though, perhaps a colder ale fermentation, similar to a kolsch or something, really cool in a dark beer like this. a fuller, even almost chewy body on it, enough carbonation, and a rich cocoa and tobacco finish, some brown sugar there too, hearty and filling in a good way. overall a really complex and interesting beer that i really enjoyed as a sipper. who says german beers are boring?! this is real unique.
