really cool effort here, gorgeous packaging, barrel aged wheatwine, done with honey i believe, more ambitious than other beers i have known from these guys, smart recipe, fantastic packaging. unassuming in the glass, honey colored indeed, so blonde, golden colored and easy looking, no intense viscosity or anything, more head than we usually see on this sort of thing, delicate looking even, pretty clear and very bright, looks great. the nose has a neat ester to it, almost belgian for a second, honey sweetness, fresh wheat not all caramelized and long cooked to me, some vanilla and oak from the barrel treatment, light spiciness too, earthy, but tidy too, and strong without being hot, not overly sweet either for what it is, unique and appealing, almost mead-like. the flavor is very pleasant with wheat and honey notes together, just some soft mid palate sweetness to it, again sort of hits like a mead, the wheat is far lighter than expected in this style, in color, body, and in fact flavor as well. some gentle yellow floral tones, dandelion maybe, with a strong alcohol lift at the end, more wood than barrel contents, sauternes, honeycomb, corn pops cereal, and back end spiciness adding some nuance and balance, not as rich and heavy as expected, and a very refined and unique take on the style overall, subtle yeast character, freakishly drinkable, some late bitterness settles it nicely, good carbonation for what it is. exotic and unexpected and fantastic, well done! will have to check back in with these guys when i am in denver next, its been awhile, i didnt know they were doing this sort of thing!
