Pours a nice burnished gold/copper colour with a wet head of off white foam that's almost a finger in height.
Nose is immediately bright and fruity as I'm pouring from the can into the glass. Once it gets there my interrogations reveal more traditional caramel and slightly noble aromas. Somewhat grainy with a touch of fruity yeasty esters to the finish if I really look.
Spicy noble hops and bready malts lead hte way. The yeasty esters are present but don't step forward, instead being kind of addressed adjacent to the honey from hte malts and teh fruitier side of hte hops. The hops are bold but not overwhelming and mostly in hte noble vein of things: spicy/earthy/maybe some grassiness a bit of pine maybe... it's an interesting one.
Finish meets the sweetness from the malts into the earthy bitterness of the hops and the fruitiness of the hops and yeast.
Moderately sharp carbonation and a light-medium body.
I'm not overly familiar with the California Common/Steam Beer style, so I was a little skeptical at first (also that the can labels it as an amber lager), but it hews pretty close to the description of that style. I can dig it, even if it isn't going to ever be my favourite/go to.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
