Picked this place at random while looking for a lunch-serving brewpub in downtown Sylva. We made a great choice. Service was fantastice, and we felt welcome from the moment we walked in. Asked the bartender for suggestions for my dad, who's not really a craft beer fan, and he ended up really enjoying the blonde ale. I had an Amber and an English mild, and both were excellent.
As for the food, we tried a flatbread and the Asian glazed wings. Both are winners, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Sylva.

Visited here today 10-16-2021 with Da Boss while surveying the fall color situation west and north of our home in Henderson County. Not a bad gig on a mid to upper 60’s day!
Vibe was okay, a refurbished diner by the looks of the set up. Bar seating surrounds the bar area totally. Plenty of taps on display. Ordering for food and drinks was self-service. Other than that lots of seating surrounding the bar area all the way around.
Quality of the beers was pretty good. My first IPA was solid and well done. The DIPA which was an upscale version of the first IPA had a funky aftertaste.
Service was extremely friendly and good. Although it was order at the bar our meals and 2nd beer was brought to us.
Selection of beers was solid as there was 15-20 beers, ciders, and meads.
Food was hit and miss too. Da Boss had the hot chicken sandwich which we shared and it was very good. However the brewers burger was 2 1/4 lb patties and very dry even though it was cooked to medium rare as ordered. Service cutting boards were not suitable for the burger - 3.0
Overall a solid stop but we’ll try other brewpubs in the area.

I like Balsam because the beer tenders are friendly and knowledgeable about the beer they are serving.
They had Free Popcorn, but are doing away with the popcorn for some onsite Mexican food, which I've not had yet.
Great beer, plenty of inside seating, you can walk to three other breweries from here. Four breweries all within walking distance.
