Dull matte black with a dense creamy nitro-like milk chocolate tan head that slowly settles to a soft thin blanket with a thickly ridged collar.
Smell has a strong but smooth roast coffee with hints of smoke, as well as chocolate pie, complete with crust. Vanilla nougat develops as it warms.
Taste starts with a lightly smoky roast that almost has a note of hickory. Chocolate wafer with vanilla filling takes on the middle as a touch of black peppery barrel and cigar come out after. A teasing sting caps off an amazingly creamy soft feel as the medium, fluid body runs with a light tingly carbonation that finishes semi-dry and lightly powdery.
Having this later in the week, this beer really seems to be developing even in the same keg that was originally tapped, as I detected a bit more heat and a touch of cinnamon I hadn't gotten before.
