Formerly Session Export

Session Golden Lager is rich and full-bodied, with an elegant, malty finish. And like its name, it’s already started hauling in the gold medals. So put a little bling in your glass.

This 2014 World Beer Championships gold medal winner is brewed in the Dortmunder lager style, Golden pours a deep golden color and imported hop varieties impart noble hop aromas with subtle herbal and hop spice notes. Hop bitterness and malt sweetness are balanced with a firm, smooth, mineral/malt character & clean finish.

Sweeter finish than expected. Not too hoppy, slightly cloying aftertaste.

Fresh, Grainy, Herbal, Clean

With the first installment of their “Session” seasonal line-up, Full Sail deserves a respectful nod for taking on the Export Lager style. This dry concoction draws on a superb crispness which makes it oh-so-drinkable. A kiss of alcohol, dry grass and spicy herbal hops on the palate. Nearly immaculate, which leaves a lovely lingering aftertaste of fresh grain and herbal hops. Spot on to style, a real treat.

I have been a fan of Full Sail Brewery's Session series for some time, but Session Export was a pleasant surprise. There seems to be a gap among american breweries between macro swill and high quality craft ales and porters.

There are times (specially in the summer in Georgia) that there is such thing as too much flavor, but that does not mean you want to drink macro mildly colored water either, I usually fill this gap with German lagers and hefeweissens. Session Export is the beer drinker's lawnmower beer, tasty an easy to drink.

I was disappointed that his is a "spring" seasonal, and I could d not find any more of it in July. By all means if it should be a summer seasonal.

11oz stubby bottle poured into a lager glass.

A: Deep golden color with a brassy hue. Fine-bubbled white head holds at a quarter inch in height. Wispy lacing.

S: Sweet grainy malt is central. Hay. Supporting peppery/grassy hops. Grape leaves. Light whiffs of sweet alcohol.

T: That same deep grainy sweetness dominates in flavor. Hay. Grassy, peppery, dried garden herbs. Vague sort of light fruit flavor coming off of the malts too. Hints of alcohol toward the back. Drying finish.

M: Very full medium body. Round, firm, and lush malt character presses gently into the tongue with a weight that eases in. Aggressively crisp and scrubbing carbonation. Kiss of alcohol warmth.

O: Full Sail really shines with its lager brewing skills on full display here. This is simply a great beer, and spot-on stylistically.
