Winter weather forecast for Hood River: unseasonably tropical. IPApaya, the latest in our Pub Series, blends locally grown hops with notes of papaya for a vacation in a bottle. IPApaya was born out of our interest in the tropical aromas of Northwest hops. Pale and wheat malts along with healthy additions of Equinox and Cascade hops provide the perfect golden base for the addition of papaya. The result is a refreshing IPA with the subtle essence of papaya. Tropical aromas of citrus, passion fruit, and papaya are well complemented by clean malt notes.

Overall, good pour, one finger head, good color, papaya is distinct, but not overwhelming. Enjoyable experience, good, but not amazing. It does the job. I picked this up for 7.99.

12 oz bottle.
Look: clear amber body with a decent white head. Minimal lacing.
Very nice aroma mixes papapa, hints of other tropical fruits, spicy hops, and faint bread, The flavor is comparatively disappointing and way more hop forward despite some mellowing effects of the papapa. Mildly bitter.
Feel: near medium body and carbonation.

For a cheaper IPA this one astounded me. Not one for a fruity beer, it is a light enough flavor that actually adds something to a beer from an otherwise middle of the road brewery. It doesn't get old but out of a six pack, it would probably spend six nights in my fridge - one of these and a few other standards makes for a nice night. Pleasantly surprised!

12 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy straw yellow with a medium rocky white head that goes to a thin film and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet candied tropical fruit with some perfume.
The flavor is sweet tropical fruit with a floral hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is slightly watery.
Overall, an OK fruity IPA.

Appearance is clear yellow with plenty of white foam in the Affligem chalice. Certainly a powerful fruity aroma. Long nose of grapes and papaya. Very light body. Fairly sharp, and then there is the rather excessive bitterness.
Some malt and white grape flavor. This is more bitter than fruity, but it's an IPA first if that's what you're looking for. From the 12 oz bottle purchased at Haggen Market in Burlington, Wash.

Picked up a bottle from TW Arrowhead 1-28-17 for $1.79. Bottled on 12-1-16 and stored in the beer fridge since purchase.
Beer poured golden with a modest white head.
Nose is very juice like, sweet papaya dominates.
Taste is papaya forward initially balanced by the palate malt base. Finish is a bitter green hop that is a tad distracting.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and refreshing.
Overall a pretty good beer that has some decent qualities.

Folks, this isn't just an IPA, it's a tropical IPA and should be rated as such. I happen to love the taste of papaya so I really enjoyed this IPA. If you don't like papaya, you won't enjoy this IPA. It pours a bright gold with a healthy off-white head and lots of lacing with a nice fruity - hoppy IPA aroma. Excellent tropical fruit tasting IPA with a heavy emphasis on papaya. the hoppy bitterness comes through just as it should in a really good IPA and the last flavor you taste is the papaya. It goes down easy. Enjoy!
