$3.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a slightly hazy deep-gold body beneath an average-sized head of fluffy white foam. The head seems to be holding well. The aroma isn't anything special but at least it's clean. I'm mainly getting grainy malt but there are some floral and lightly spicy hops there, just nothing that really stands out, and a touch of yeasty sulfur. On to the taste... well, not surprisingly, it's similar. I'm not getting "Pilsner" out of this malt. It's grainy but it's not "grassy". A moderate bitterness balances it, and yet again, I'm looking for more hops. There are some there, OK, but this is labeled as a "German Style Pilsner" and I'm just not seeing it. I'd be expecting more bitterness as well. It's OK as it is, but it's not a very good example of the style at all. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp, so OK there. The head retention and lacing turned out to be pretty good in the end, but seeing as how it's not clear I can't score it any better than 4 out of 5 for appearance. Overall? It's grainy and sweetish on the malt and, and lacking proper hop contributions across the board.
