"San", or "Three", is the third beer in our series inspired by Japanese-Brazilian culture. This blonde Ale features guava and jasmine, a fragrant flower, widely cherished Japanese tea culture. Jasmine imparts delicate floral and slightly sweet notes, perfectly balancing the guava's sweetness. A refreshing fusion that honors Japanese heritage in Brazil.

16 oz. crowler filled at Premium Draught in Houston, TX, on June 21, 2025
L: murky yellow-gold topped with 1/4-inch head of white foam; light passes through the beer, but it's opaque; SRM 3-4; keeps a noticeable but thin collar of white foam with a hint of a skin
S: light sweet malt, almost bready, with a hint of something fruity
T: earthy and neutral with almost little to no flavor other than a gentle earthy yeastiness; as the beer warms and you get into the glass, wee little hints of fruit peel start showing up; melon rind; a hint of sour creamed corn is creeping in, though to be honest that note could be from a citrusy lemon guava, which I find tastes as much like grapefruit as anything else; it's definitely trying to do something to the good as it continues opening up, but whatever sweet or tasty flavors it might possess, they remain mostly locked up and hidden by a generic earthiness
F: creamy and lightly crisp, very easy to sip or quaff; over time it starts coming off as fairly soft, but that could be from the crowler pour (if I were to get another crowler of this, I'd likely drink it straight out of the can to hold onto as much carbonation as possible)
O: this one's more beer than guava or jasmine, and the base beer is far from exciting; still, there's nothing out of bounds either, and if all it had were a little more malt sweetness, it would rise considerably from average to good; I'll be honest: I did not know it had guava and jasmine in it, and if I did I wouldn't have bought a crowler; with that said, I'm glad I tried it and while no huge fan of this particular beer, I would consider trying other Japas stuff based on this experience
