A- Pours a deep dark muddy brown color, with a beautiful dark tan colored head, which itself is dense and creamy, and with excellent retention....eventually settling down to a thick foamy ring. The lacing looks equally impressive, with mounds of sticky foam clinging to the inside of the glass!
S- I get a very decent amount of chai spice blend (cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom, and nutmeg seem to be the most prevalent), followed by dark chocolate, cocoa, hints of vanilla richness, lactose, sweet cream and Italian vanilla coffee biscuits. The finish is of slightly astringent bitter black and chocolate charred malts, with muted hop notes.
T- I quite like this! Chai spices is duly noted, and the cinnamon and clove in particular leave slight spicy heat on my palate, maybe even a little peppery! There are also follow up flavors, as the aromas suggested, of dark chocolate, bitter cocoa, vanilla bean, lactose, sweet cream, bready yeast, and finishing flavors that skew more traditional like bittering charred malt, oily hops and dark roast black coffee.
M/O- This is a medium-full bodied milk stout and the carbonation is relatively smooth on the palate, allowing the gauntlet of flavors to coat and shine through! I find this a perfect kind of warming brew and it would be a perfect accompaniment to a piece of spice cake and it can hold its own all the same. Nice drinkability factor and I wouldn't mind a second helping if presented to me! Jolly good stuff!
