This special version of our Hack Weight Imperial Stout was aged in Booker's bourbon barrels across four seasons in 2019. During this time, we employed a winemaking technique to the aging process known as the "ouillé" method, or making sure the barrels were regularly topped up with fresh beer to minimize oxidization. Over the course of the year, Barrel Aged Hack Weight has mellowed from its original iteration into something unique with notes of brownie batter, vanilla cigar, and liqueur-filled chocolates. We also added a tasteful amount of whole Tahitian vanilla beans prior to blending. It was totally nerve-wracking and tremendously exciting to follow this beer as it aged; we hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Pre pandemic beer - 12 ounce can packaged December 19, 2019, so 5+ years old.
Pours a thick black with a short lived reddish brown head.
Nose strongly vanilla forward, chocolate, caramel, and oaky bourbon - fresh brownies from the oven.
Silky sweet vanilla and caramel on the palate, oak, dark chocolate, and hints of bourbon heat with a backend roasty and earthy bitterness.
Full mouthfeel but less though than expected from the pour - soft yet tingly carbonation with a lingering bittersweetness.
Honestly - this was unexpectedly great.
