From a 12oz bottle. I don't see a date on the bottle.
Nice hiss and a bit of smoke upon opening. This beer looks thick while pouring and is pitch black in color. There's a 2 finger brown head to the beer that has great retention for the ABV, but there's no lacing on the glass.
There's a hint of a boozy aroma to this beer. There's notes of hazelnuts that are quite pronounced. There's notes of chocolate and they seem to lean toward sweet.
Up front the hazelnut hits hard and lingers. There's a sweet chocolate flavor that comes into play next that adds to the hazelnut. There's a bitter flavor that comes into play on the finish, but it isn't too overpowering.
I said that this beer looks thick, well it almost feels watery. It is light for a porter. The beer doesn't have a boozy feeling to it.
This isn't bad at all, but it's not something I'd seek out. Trying it once is plenty for me.

Appearance: Dark brown, good head.
Smell: Chocolate, hazelnuts.
Taste: Sweet, then nutty chocolate brownie, lasting chocolate and slight coffee bitterness in the finish.
Overall: Wasn't expecting too much from this, but really enjoyed this imperial porter. I don't usually go for pastry stouts/porters, but this tasted like a hazelnut brownie and wasn't over-the-top sweet. Thanks to @cheeseheadinminneapolis for this one.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of brownies, light hazelnut. Taste follows the aroma, although less pronounced. Some alcohol is present, and it's very sweet. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

The aGood body and feel. Hazelnut Brownie pours black, with not much head. The aroma is sweet, with lots of hazelnuts. The flavor is creamy and sweet, with lots of chocolate and hazelnut. Overall, a sweet porter, very candy-like.

Seems like this is another winner, I loved the heavy chocolate and then the hazelnut was just in a good spot on the palette. I definitely would like to get this again.

Whole Hog Brewery "Hazelnut Brownie"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, coded "17:02 3071SP". Sampled on 06/15/22.
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is an "IMPERIAL CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT PORTER" brewed with "NATURAL FLAVOR". It's poured an opaque black body beneath a short head of tan foam. Some limited ruby highlights can be seen at the bottom of the glass if you raise it to the light. The aroma displays some sweetish nuttiness, a coffee-like roastiness, and a touch of chocolate. The taste is far fuller and richer than the aroma suggests with notes of hazelnut, toffee, milk chocolate, a very light suggestion of apple, and some herbal hops towards the finish. The alcohol has a presence at 9.2% but it never really comes forward. A median bitterness balances it and allows it to finish dry despite the sweetness upfront. In the mouth it's medium bodied with a dextrinous side and creamy smooth due to a fine-bubbled, moderate carbonation. The trade-off to the lower carbonation giving it a smoother mouthfeel is that the head doesn't hold up that well, and therefore there's also limited lacing left behind. In the end this is actually quite nice. It could serve as a dessert beer but I think it stands on its own just as easily.

A - Dark brown pour with a cream colored layer resting on top, low carbonation.
S - Full of good aroma with brownie, fudge brownie, hazelnut, and chocolate.
T - Follows the nose. Starts with a hit of fudge brownie followed by a slight off flavor and then off to the races with fudge brownie, hazelnut, chocolate malt, and ends nicely balanced with a long lingering chocolate brownie residue left on the palate with a little bit of hazelnut over top.
M - Big medium body that's silky soft and a long dry finish left on the tongue.
O - This is pretty tasty. Would rate a little higher on the taste but not sure what off flavor I'm getting (but it's there).

Not a bad little beer it's trying it's hardest to be satisfyingly smooth cake mix flavor, good dose of hazelnut flavor even has that dry porter note so you know it's not just another stout. It's that finish that gets me every time reminding me it's a beer and not just a sweetened coffee. Overall I was pleasantly surprised and the couple that I bought are easily finished!
