Got this at the brewery a while back. Cheers!

Maker’s Mark BA Royal Stout
APPEARANCE: Pours out clear light brown and yields a two finger, medium looking, crackly, fizzy, light brown head with okay retention. Foamy head slowly crackles down to a full wisp. A half wisp and ring remains leaving touches of lacing on the glass as it empties. A little foamy at the start but it calms down very nicely.
SMELL: Bourbon barrel notes, some booze, light caramel, vanilla notes, chocolate fudge aromas and notes of coffee on the nose. Medium strength but quite decadent. Enticing.
TASTE: Bourbon flavors, boozy character, light notes of vanilla and caramel with more alcohol at the swallow. Bolder finish of bourbon, oak, caramel and toffee sweetness, light vanilla, a touch of bitter coffee character, as well as some decent alcohol lingers on the palate. Plenty boozy enough.
PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. Foamy and a touch prickly on the palate, not creamy or heavy enough for my tastes, goes down okay with a good scratch and burn, finishing somewhat mouth-coating on the palate. Decent heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is billed as a Belgian royal stout, so it’s not quite as thick, heavy and creamy as other stout styles. Definitely not an American imperial stout, as listed. That said, as a Belgian royal, it works really well. The aroma and flavor on this one are really nice and the Maker’s Mark treatment definitely hits the mark. *Sorry* Not one I’d rush off to buy again, but certainly a solid beer and gives me another good reason to be a Dok Brewing fan. We had quite a few of their others in Ghent and were pleased every time. Pick one up at the brewery the next time you’re there. Cheers!
