Copenhagen 4/1 2021. 33 cl bottle from Voldby Købmandsgård web-shop. Dark brown label with golden cubes and a very big “Martha” in white. Pretty hip for a Belgian beer.
Pours opaque dark brown with a small off-white head. Settles as thin patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. No lacing to speak of.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a sharp boozy, grainy sourness. Caramel and chocolate. Grains and bread. Alcohol. Slightly metallic.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is intense with a medium strong sugary sweetness followed by a stronger harsh bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter. Finish is boozy and dry.
Quite intense and sweet boozer.

330 ml stubby bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12%. Dark reddish brown colour, large to moderate beige head. Aroma of dark dried fruits, caramel, brown kandij sugar syrup, alcohol and mild spices. The flavour is malty sweet but not too much, with the same elements as the aroma. Moderate bittering hops.

If Olde English made a Brown Ale, this would be it. And I’m only saying that because of the 12% alcohol content. Honestly, considering it’s that high, they did a good job at hiding it like Jesse James while on the run (until the coward Robert Ford got him). It may not have Martha Washington refinement, but it’s gives Martha Hunt a run for her money.
