TAPROOT MIDDLE EARTH NEIPA 10/13/19
Gifted by daughter Julie who acquired it at the brewery last weekend while on a holiday in Newport. Canned 9/3/19. Attractive can art of tree roots over a plain but colorful landscape. Poured from the 16 oz. can into an English nonick pint.
a; Opaque yellow/orange with an inch thick white head which receded to thick even surface foam and dense lacing.
s; Mild tropical fruit,
t; Follows the nose with a moderate hop bite over a hefty malt base. Dry finish with slight lingering bitterness.
m; Solid medium, great body and some carbonation tingle.
o; Unusual NEIPA, with exceptional substance and great mouthfeel, and pine resin/tropical fruit rather than citrus notes, no doubt from the two unusual New Zealand hops used, Moutere and Kohatu. A very pleasant brew whose heft belies its sessionable ABV (6%). However it does not hold up very well as it warms.
