Hefeweizen. 5.0% ABV
$9 AUD per 330ml skiff (on-draught).
A rather hum-ho straightforward attempt at the style, hitting on spicy clove but not banana, bubblegum, orange peel, etc. Yeasty intricacy is lacking here, and the wheat backbone doesn't taste all that fresh or vibrant.

Purchased at the source in August 2022. Drunk in December of that year.
L: It's very clear - perhaps too clear for a Hefeweizen. Let's be honest and call it a Kristalweizen. It's golden yellow in colour with lots of very small bubbles racing their way up to the glass. The head is not as big as expected for the style and loses its substance pretty quickly.
S: The aroma is full of cloves with a bubblegum hint to it. There's also quite a strong suggestion of pears, bananas and mango juiced up and mixed together in the glass.
T: The taste is strongly bubblegum and banana with a side helping of pear and cloves. There's no spice to the yeast and the beer comes across as quite reserved in that department. Retronasally there's pear and stonefruit.
M: Mouthfeel is a little prickly, which is ok for such a highly carbonated style. There's a slight burning in the throat after the swallow but it's not at all unpleasant.
O: I'm a little torn on this one. It's a nice beer but it offends the style with its presentation because it sure as hell doesn't look like a hefeweizen. Flavour-wise I think it's also a little toned down; it's quite mild and safe and clearly searching for a nice middle ground. The problem is that in striving for that mark it's missing a certain something that makes me want to search it out again.
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
