On-draught @ Ballistic Cannonvale.
Cola-like one-two of thinness and acidity. Largely bereft of flavour, and I scratch my head wondering what they thought would be Mexican about this ostensible Mexican chocolate stout, which throws out zero notes in terms of chile pepper and barely commits even to cacao nibs (by way of mainstream chocolate malt by the taste of it).
Insipid for a beer billed as a Mexican chocolate stout, not committing to the premise at all but instead seemingly retarding it for an Australian demographic that can't handle Chile spice and probably hasn't tasted actual mole before.
Like European restaurants that purport to offer Mexican food and actually just offer bastardized Spanish food dressed up as "Mexican," this sad attempt at a Mexican chocolate stout falls woefully short of the target, probably just out of sheer ignorance as to what exactly a successful attempt would actually taste like.
Treated more accurately as a vaguely chocolatey schwarzbier, it's not awful. Just so dreadfully thin and cola-like...not a good beer any way I try to come at it.
D+ / NOT RECOMMENDED
