Saltfire created this blonde ale then soured it in Chardonnay Barrels. September 27th was the bottle date of this beer. With beer being a higher ABV, this means nothing to me in terms of freshness. The beer was 48 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The pour of the beer produced a one finger creamy and airy tan head. The head dissipated quickly. The color of the beer is SRM 4, pale straw with light amber hues. The clarity of the beer is hazy. The cloudy beer is a result of the yeast I do not know if the beer was filtered. The appearance of the beer is good.
The aromas in the beer are oranges, vinous, lightly toasted malts, a vinegar-like sourness, earthy, herbal, sauvignon blanc grapes, floral, yeasty, and subtle honey-like sweetness.
The flavors in the beer are oranges, herbal, melon, lemon-like sourness, floral, a hint of musty, honey-like sweetness, chalky, lightly toasted crackers, earthy, yeasty, and grapefruit.
The mouthfeel of the beer is acidic and dry but crisp.
The body of the beer is light, high carbonation, and full finish.
The balance they achieved in this beer is incredible. The beer's harmony is spectacular. The beer marries well with chardonnay barrel bringing the characters from that into the beer. This beer is hands down one of the best sours I have drunk thus far. I was worried the high ABV in the beer would give the beer solvent notes, but the alcohol is incognito. Awesome beer!
