Pours a clear coppery amber with abundant foam in the Stella Artois goblet. Pleasant boozy aroma. Quite hot with alcohol as well as on the acidic side. It tastes more like the barrel than like malt. Perhaps a hint of smoke, but more of a hoppy edge. Starts with a slight malty sweetness. Quite appley, and with the astringent aftertaste and the aroma, it's more of a sharp brandy taste. I would not call it mellow, but quite interesting if sipped carefully. From the 16 oz can purchased at the brewpub in South Salt Lake.

I am trying a new beer from SaltFire tonight. I decided to serve this beer in a tulip glass at 48 degrees. The pour produced an airy one-fingered head with no retention. I wanted a creamier head with some retention. I am charting the color around SRM 15, dark amber with copper hues. The clarity is clear to brilliant. A few carbonation bubbles dance lazily within. The appearance is okay.
Nosing the glass, I smell whiskey, a whiff of smoke, a faint apple aroma, brown sugar, malty sweetness, toasted malts, bread, butterscotch, light citrus, a hint of floral, and candied fruit. The aromas are mouthwatering.
I taste oak, apple brandy, light smoke, candied oranges, graham cracker, brown sugar, malty sweetness, bread, butterscotch, a hint of floral, and toasted malts.
The mouthfeel is fizzy and somewhat astringent. The mouthfeel is medium, has a medium carbonation, and finishes long.
Fantastic beer with lots of bold flavors. The apple brandy barrels come through harmoniously and complement the ale well. I enjoyed this beverage after a long day at work.
