I picked up a few beers from one of my favorite breweries in Salt Lake City; this was part of the stash. I am using a tulip glass and serving the beer at a temperature of 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, creamy, one-fingered, white head that dissipated quickly, leaving no lacing on the glass. The appearance of this style of beer is average.
Nosing the beer, I detect notes of mango, orange peel, funky barnyard,
light floral notes, leather, grainy, light fruity sweetness, and notes of earthiness.
Sipping the beer, the mango and orange notes are prevalent, accompanied by grain, horse blanket, funky barnyard, mineral, light toasted bread, light fruity sweetness, leather, earthiness, and a touch of herbal character.
The mouthfeel is dry, finishing crisp and clean. The body is light with medium-plus carbonation.
Final Thought: I was unsure what I would get; I had not tried the original, Saison De Trahison. I enjoyed this beer, especially after a long day at work. The mango and orange flavors pair well with each other, creating a wonderful dynamic in this saison. I enjoyed the balance of the base beer mixed with the adjuncts. Overall, a delightful beer with a lovely harmony.
