Poured from 330mL can into a tall kitchen glass. Best by 4/20/26 -- that's a pretty impressive "expiration" date!
Appearance: extremely dark brown hue, nearly black, with several fingers of creamy tan foam which slowly subside. Very pretty indeed.
Smell: extremely rich: sweet and chocolatey, with date, fig, and tobacco aromas. Very complex and intriguing, though like I said, also very, very sweet.
Taste: sweet and fruity, with dates and tobacco flavors. There's also a bit of a soy sauce flavor going on; perhaps this should be aged a little bit to maybe take that edge off. I like it, though, despite some of its off-flavors. Oh, also, there's a serious jab of alcoholic heat at the end -- no surprise for a 12% beer.
Mouthfeel: medium-thick body with a very smooth, silky creaminess.
Overall: despite this beer's flaws, it has a lot of complexity and a lot of interesting flavors going on. I'll be sipping on this one for a while, that's for sure.
