A 48 hour-old crowler poured into an ostentatious Gunther chalice. I ordered these crowlers delivery, and I kind of just tossed this one in to get over the minimum purchase requirement. I thought it was just a brown.
And the pour is that of an American brown, although perhaps a bit less fizzy than usual. It's appealingly, uh, brown.
Aroma is very boozy. I rechecked the can... only 5%. The website confirms this. Looking over my purchase receipt, I realize this is a *barrel aged* low ABV brown ale, using Buffalo Trace barrels. Nice.
It smells nutty and boozy. Sweeter than your usual BA beer, and the nuttiness of the malt does a great job of rounded out and softening the whiskey nodes.
Tastes like it smells. Wow. This honestly shouldn't work as well as it does. Boozy throughout but only medium heavy, still plenty drinkable in spite of its flavor profile. Hazelnuts start things off, moving into very smooth whiskey, finishing pleasantly dry with the slightest hop tang.
