Brewed with beer historian, Maureen O'Prey, this recreation of an 1870's Porter brewed in Baltimore by Civil War Navy Hero-turned brewer Thomas Murphy Dukehart, of German/Irish descent.
We incorporated local Chinook hops, Irish yeast and Irish moss for clarifying the beer, as well as fermenting a bit colder and cold conditioning in German style.

On draught at the brewery.
Dark pour, the thin head settles into a collar fed by slippery lacing.
Nicely roasted barley malt, subtle chocolate, softly hopped, fairly dry, nice and smooth, a little tangy. A medium bodied brew.
Reminiscent of a Guinness Dry Irish Stout, only kicked up a notch on the flavor and ABV. Perhaps it’s the Irish ingredients?

10 oz draft pour at Frisco Taphouse in Gambrills, MD. This is a smooth, well-balanced American porter with milk chocolate and light coffee notes. A hint of caramel as well. Slightly watery, less carbonated than expected (but not flat by any means). Overall a solid porter.

Draught pint at The Brass Tap here in Baltimore: Dark brown body with a finger+ of a dense looking dark tan head that settles into a solid cap with some lacing after every sip; a whiff of chocolate malt; more chocolate on the tongue; good body & carbonation consistent with the style; it has become my go to here as the temperatures drop
