The brewer calls this an Imperial Amber but BA only lists Imp Red as a choice.
Fresh batch this week. Enjoyed in the sun on the brewery patio, responsibly social distancing.
Covid rules dictate plastic cups. Not a good start.
Big amber bubbles dissipate quickly, leaving no lace or head remains. It's in plastic so they get a pass here somewhat.
Color is a beautiful rusty amber with steady carbonation.
Aroma is all caramel malt at first with spruce and ever greeny smells along for the ride. This one is all about the grains.
And excellent grain character it has - berry and brown sugar notes, a real roasted grain flavor and a dryness that doesn't taste like hops. The brewer then tells me he used some rye in the mash so now stuff makes more sense on my tongue.
Solid medium body with just enough hop bite to keep the toffee sweetness in balance. A tinny carb/CO2 bite detracts fro me a bit but that dies away as it warms up.
It seems like it's still green and more conditioning time might bring things together better. I'll just have to go back next week and try it again. Work.. work..work.
