Picked this up last week as I never saw this beer, nor had I ever had anything from King's Court before. Even though it cooled off here last night, this was a great beer for this time of the year as it was easygoing, easy to enjoy, and not too light in flavor or on the palate.
Though this may have been purple in name, this poured like pink grapefruit juice with a light, spongy head that settled pretty quickly. Only a few splotches and hints of rings were left as I worked my way through this as the lacing was quite light over the top half of my pint glass. Lots of cranberry, fruit patch, and salt in the nose as the taste was quite heavy-handed for a fruity beer of this nature. More berry than tart, this had an outdoorsy feel to it that would be perfect for a warm summer day as the salt was just enough to keep this from feeling like a farmhouse beer.
Not surprisingly, the alcohol in this was very hard to taste as it would have been easy to crack open another can after finishing this off. While having a nice body and a relatively clean finish, this wasn't quite like other examples of the style that I've had over the years in that it wasn't as sour and had just a hair more heft than I would have liked. Love the 80's-looking label but I wasn't feeling that lack of a date on the bottom of the can but for this time of the year, this brew was more than fitting to kick back with!

Served on tap in a snifter glass at Growlers Beer Bistro in Tuckahoe, NY.
A: Pours an opaque, purple side of pink color with a one finger, short lived, off-white head, rim retention, and limited amorphous lacing.
S: Aromas of cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, and sea salt.
T: More semidry than semisweet and very tart. Aromas of red and black berries, especially cranberry and sea salt. Fruit flavors front and center. Not at all bitter; strong wheat grain aftertaste at times.
M: Medium bodied with moderate effervescence.
O: The second of their "Sunset" beers I have had and really appreciate the attention to the fruit flavor. Purple Sunset was perfect for a Sunday brunch.
