Near black color where no light shines through the edge of the glass. Long lasting head which leaves plenty of spots as I taste the beer.
I get a hazelnut aroma initially. This is followed by darker chocolate and ash. No code to the nose.
The ash comes through on the taste as well. I am distracted by the band-aid flavors. Fuller bodied with a modest carbonation level. The finish is semisweet chocolate and some background bitterness I would attribute to hop, not black patent malt but I'm not completely sure. The aftertaste is short.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight. It poured a dark opaque with nice tan cascading head that left a spotty lace. The scent had subtle malt and roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. There was a subtle sweet roast malt base with hints of coffee presence. The mouthfeel was smooth in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a great beer.
