Black, one finger of evanescent foam.
Toasted smell, with resinous and balsamic hop.
Malty taste, slightly sweet, caramel and light toasted notes, balanced by bitter and resinous notes.
After a little warming, some fruity notes (black currant).
A bit too sweet, but after all, not so unbalanced.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2018. Purchased recently from Home Bargains. The label states that GK's Craft Academy creates opportunities for brewery apprentices to learn new skills. Described as a black IPA brewed with huskless specialty malts and hopped with Galaxy, Mosaic and Citra.

A: Poured into an IPA glass. A very dark reddish-brown colour that appears virtually black in the glass. Forms a large head of creamy beige foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a persistent surface layer.

S: Aroma of fruity, spicy hops with hints of citrus rind, subtle tropical fruit, light berries, grass, leafiness, moderate roasted malt, a touch of bitter chocolate, vague earthiness and ale yeast.

T: Tastes of dark malt with notes of roasted grain, mild coffee, a touch of chocolate, fruity aromatic hops, subtle citrus, tropical fruit, vague berries, grass, spice, ale yeast and faint earthiness. A moderate, hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body for the strength. Slightly astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, citrus peel, leafiness, dark malt, subtle coffee and ale yeast.

O: A pretty good stab at the style, and certainly better than most of GK's output. Looks the part, while the aroma and flavour are a satisfying blend of dark malt and fruity aromatic hops underpinned by the house yeast. Body is alright. Won't blow your socks off but drinkable enough. Worth sampling.

Bottled in a weird looking 330ml bottle
pours a cark, dark, dark, dark brown body with big faoming white head that keeps a reasonable presence
good dark sugar aroma with grapefruit notes
in a flat way it ticks the black ipa boxes slightly sweet, slightly roasty, but not deep or comlex
had worst, will have worse but still expect better
