a really cool beer from a brewery i had never heard of before. a reasonably priced bottle too. its an oak fermented wild golden sour type dry hopped with, you guessed it from the name, fuggles and amarillo. its really is sort of immediately familiar to me already, at least from a yeast standpoint, a nice mix of brett and bacteria, more lactic than funky in both nose and taste, but a cool mix of both that isnt too much, keeping the beer drinkable and interesting, well refined there, especially for something as newish as these guys appear to be. there isnt a lot of wood to this, more funk and tang than real oakiness, but there i a tannic white wine fruity and almost gritty thing happening here that i think works great with the fruity hops, its balanced and kind of rich without being sweet. the nose is sourer than the taste, but the whole thing gets a little acidic when it warms up. the hops are cool together, i am not used to seeing fuggles in a dry hop context, and it adds a cool earthiness to the fruity profile of the amarillo, plenty of melon and pine and hay in here, almost increasing the rustic farmy nature of this, but its also really clean and well refined, awesomely well carbonated, dry hopped to near oblivion though, so any flaws may just be covered up by the sexy hops. not a lot going on with the malt, but i dont miss it. a tasty beer, on trend in the style and very good overall, it has me excited to try more of their stuff! killer random find.
