Bomber into an oversized tulip.
As usual, a beautiful Bosque beer. Frothy foam by the boatload and it's got the appearance of a coffee milkshake. Lacing is everywhere. The liquid poured a viscous deep brown and settles black in the glass. All I can ask for in an appearance. 5
Smell throws me for a loop. It's described as an imperial chocolate porter, but the aroma first suggest to me something Belgian. Strong dark fruit, plum and raisin and date and all that jazz along with floral yeast. But this does segue into a chocolately aroma. I like what I'm smelling enough but not quite drooling. 4
Taste is a melange for sure. Starts sweet and syrupy chocolate-like, then the floral, fruity yeast makes an entrance, and then the brew develops more dark chocolate, cocoa and baker's chocolate flavor. Cherry flavors mingle with chocolate on the tongue after each sip. 4
I think the yeast character in this beer undoes it a tad. You have a viscous, creamy, full-bodied beer with an upfront sweetness that gives way to a vibrant, floral middle that doesn't quite flow together well. The finish closes out nicely with a bit of bitterness to corral the sweetness and throughout you won't notice a hint of the 9.0% ABV. 3.75
Good now. Curious to see whether age improves it a tad or not.
