super interesting beer here, a strawberry basil blonde ale, and it has me wondering if its a different base beer even than their up north blonde, which i had in the same session and was not too stoked on, this can says 5.2% abv, although the listing here is different and lines up with the base blonde, this seems better by a ways, and not just because the flavor combination is exciting, its objectively better overall. also possible that this was once a lager, but my can straight up says blonde ale, despite this being listed as a pils here. its got a pretty pinkish red color indicative of the fruit, and its sweet but pretty honest to me in both aroma and flavor, ripe and jammy but not too cooked down or concentrated, authentic enough to work, and its out in front of the very mild pale malt profile here, a fruit first beer, which is better than the weirdness of the up north without this summery strawberry element. the basil is there in the nose, its subtle but its cool with the berry, way more prominent in the flavor through, almost all right on the swallow, also seems authentic to me, maybe not impeccably fresh overall anymore, but the basil part does what its supposed to do, and even adds a little herbal bitterness to counterpoint the sweet fruit. the base beer is maybe a little marginal, but the flavors work, and its a combination that i have not seen before in this sort of thing. perhaps a tad too flavored to rip a bunch of them, but its better than novelty level too, maybe my favorite of the beers we had from these guys, clever anyway, and the basil is original for sure!
