The dark brown to black in color is due to roasted barley that gives the beer that sweet maltiness in the first few seconds when it hits your palette. This is the beer you can sit around the bonfire on a cold winter night and enjoy among friends.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing; looks nice. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, mild caramel and little vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, a hint of coffee; light coffee ground bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A very nicely flavored oatmeal stout with good chocolate and hints of coffee and caramel that really add to the overall flavor. Body is good and shows some oatmeal, but not quite as dense as I would hope for an oatmeal stout. This is the second "bonfire" stout I've found from local breweries and they always lure me into thinking there will be some serious smokiness, but smoke is modest here as with the last one; they are stouts to be enjoyed around a bonfire rather than emulating one. However, the flavor is pleasant and flavorful throughout the taste. Nicely done.
