Not sure who Mr. Foster was, but he was sure onto something when he combined caramel, cinnamon and bananas together and then set them on fire. But even he didn't know that his flavors could come in a smoothie, gluten-free, sour form.
But Corporate Ladder did when they created a Dessert Station series beer that takes on the same flavors. Pouring like banana cream, Bananas Foster slowly releases its foamy meringue from its dense pastel body. As a scent of banana, cream, caramel and spice swirl on the nose so does a slight winey twinge of cider and citrus. Sweeter once on the tongue, a rich cream character is flan-like with caramel, honey, custard and sweet vanilla cream.
As the creamy sweetness trends tropical, the bananas invite nuanced flavors of coconut and pineapple to emerge. Sprinkled with cinnamon and the banana dessert drink strives for a sense of balance. As a tart cidery character pops as the session nears end, the late palate is pleasantly tangy and helps with the persistent sweetness.
Full bodied, rich and rife with banana cream, the concoction isn't shy about selling the flavor of the famed dessert in obvious fashion. Tasty? Yes! Difficult to drink? Also yes.
