This is one hell of a strange beer, a rum barrel aged Kettle Sour that is based on a tiki drink. I kinda doubt that there’s any other beer out there using fassionola and falernum, and I think that’s cool. This is also my first beer from (okay, a collab with) Horus, who I’ve heard great things about. Let’s pop it open and dive in
Pours just as it looks in the clear bottle; an opaque pinkish orange with no head or lacing
Oh yeah, this certainly screams tiki in the nose, it’s really unique and has a nice funk. I’m picking up on aromas of lime zest, ginger, crackery malt, red grapefruit, funky rum, sharp oak, almond, passionfruit, wet hay, and orange juice
It’s certainly less funky in taste, but there’s still a nice bite to it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting like zest, passionfruit, ginger syrup, bready malt, honey, orange juice, pineapple, light almond, and red grapefruit. The swallow brings notes of ginger syrup, almond, orange juice, like zest, vanilla, funky rum, banana, red grapefruit, and light passionfruit
A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a bit sticky but drinks below its abv and dries out over time
This is definitely one of the most unique beers I’ve had in a while. It’s got the evolution of a great tiki drink
