When its a stout not a stout? When you can put it into a 9" x 11" pan, bake at 350 degrees for forty-five minutes or until the middle is set, and voila! You've got brownies. At least that's the mindset that Corporate ladder uses when rolling the flavors of butterscotch, white chocolate and hazelnut into their frappe-styled pastry stout.
Matte black and building a light mocha swirl of froth, their Butterscotch White Chocolate Hazelnut, Frappe seduces the senses with an abundance of chocolaty sweet scent straight out of the bakery. With not-so-subtle hints of hazelnut, vanilla, coffee and cream swooning the nose, the initial sip of chocolate, marshmallow, nutella and buttery toffee show little finesse.
A heavy coat of the sweet elixir coats the tongue with cake batter consistency and pummels the tastebuds into complete submission with alcohol laced sugars. Dense with malt and providing bold impressions of sweet mocha coffee, cream and latte, the underlying taste of coffeehouse cocktails are front and center. Trending sweet, heavy and certainly cloying, the late taste is buttery sweet with butterscotch morsels and hazelnut spreads.
Full bodied, dense and heavy on the mouth the beer should really be served with a spoon as it could just as easily have been marketed as alcoholic puddin'.
