When sugar isn't enough, Corporate Ladder looks the spice and a reckless amount of fruit to make things nice in their gluten free ale that celebrates the bleeding out of a mythical alien creature.
Double Barrel Xenomorph kicks off its 2023 celebration with a nearly glowing turquoise appearance and scantly headed with fine spritzy bubbles. As the scent of stone fruit, citrus, wine, booze, tropical fruit and simple sweetness roll off of the rim, the first sip leans in with a sugary sweet early palate of agave, simply syrup, cakey flavors and honey.
As the sugars saturate the middle palate, a full cocktail flavor of apricot, mango, peach and pineapple start to read like a pina colada but with a boozy finish rather than a creamy one. The spice of bourbon and brandy create a two headed monster of spice with nuances of coconut, caramel, vanilla, piquant tartness and a light tannic balance.
Full bodied and finishing cloying, the warmth of whisky and brandy isn't enough to balance the sweetness or to provide enough complexity to pull the session from a sugar bomb of an ale. As it lingers with fruit, the ale drinks much more like cocktail than of anything beer world related.
