Deliciously sculpted of toasted coconut, cocoa and marshmallows then aged for two full years in Blanton's bourbon barrels makes Corporate Ladder's imperial stout the stuff of envy. Don't be surprised if an element of greed comes into question when offering pours of the beer.
Barrel Aged masters of Mankind hits the glass with a thatch black color and visual density. As ominously as the beer looks, its scent is truly mezmerizing. The rise of toasted coconut and chocolate adds decadent to its roasty perfume, but its the aroma of freshly roasted marshmallows that are truly seductive. Sultry sweet, rich and slathering the tongue like cake batter and chocolate liqueur and syrup, the early taste is the stuff of desserts.
As the stout rolls along the middle palate, the complex additions of cocoa, cream and sweet nuttiness brings a sweeter balance to the espresso roast and walnut impressions. Gentle sweet smoke of roasted marshmallows keeps the session savory and sweet while hints of kahlua gives impressions of s'mores with a tiramisu softness.
Full, thick and lavish, the stout is plush and pillowy, weighing down the tongue with booze-soaked sugars and a fudgy finish.
