Brewed with pilsner malt, malted and raw wheat, and rolled oats to establish a light, soft base, Holy Citra is actually brewed with no hops in the kettle. A cool whirlpool allows the loads of Citra and Amarillo hops to retain their aromatics while denying them the chance to become bitter. Then, more Citra and Amarillo go into the ferment, and another whopping dry-hop charge for good measure. The result is a big, juicy, somewhat hazy IPA with a huge PNW hop presence.

Quite hazy yellow amber brew, but it's unfiltered as noted on the label, rather than juiced and given the raw grain treatment. Flavor is clean and citrusy with a squishy mouthfeel. Aroma of lime with alfalfa. Flavor of green melon with a tangy finish. Overall this is quite sippable and full of elegant fruit flavor. A better than average hoppy brew in the lighter and fruity style. Some bitterness and a touch of astringency in the aftertaste.

despite the name, this also has amarillo hops in it, which i think makes sense, makes it better beer. as i have often said, citra can be samey and one dimensional and underwhelming at times by itself, so its cool that they added another varietal to round it out, even if its just a bit, it always seems to bring something more out of the citra itself, like salt on certain foods, taste them more, and i think thats what happens here. a stachy body on this one, light to drink in terms of flavors, very springy and even delicate, but the grain adds some weight, rawness too, i like it being dry and earthy and dont think its out of place, just extremely modern, still has a little sunny brightness in the glass under the tall white head. it smells awesome, citra for sure, super identifiable with lemongrass and meyer lemon and lemon curd character, i dont get as much from the amarillo, mild spiciness and maybe a hint of melon, quite light really for being hazy like this. cool that the taste has no bitterness, all the same citra forward fruit layers i could smell, a hint of white grape and maybe white peach now too, bone dry but creamy feeling, some oats likely, and just a little oiliness, zero bitterness or greenness either. good carbonation, maybe ever so slightly more grain hefty than it needs to be, but the hop profle and the freshness are both on point, and i enjoyed this one a lot. have not had a ton of their hoppy stuff to date, always more interesting stuff to try on tap when we visit, but this is very good.
