16-ounce can purchased at ABV in Hillsboro. Date stamp reads "CANNED ON 05132021". Poured in an English tulip-style half-pint glass.
Look:
The beer pours a rich golden color, perfectly clear with a snowy white head that starts thick and creamy-looking, but doesn't last long or leave much lacing.
Smell:
Clean, toasty, bready malt and lots of it, enhanced with a touch of honey. A little too sweet for my taste, but not unpleasantly so. Nice floral hop finish and a whiff of alcohol at the very end.
Taste:
Starts off with luscious, sweet malt with notes of floral honey. Very clean, nice layers of malt flavor. Goes bittersweet through the middle as a spicy floral hop bitterness rises up to head off all that sweet malt. The finish is bready malt, lingering sweetness, and floral hop character.
Feel:
Medium-full body with a smooth texture. Carbonation starts off a little rough but quiets down by the end of the glass. Leaves an overall impression of good drinkability.
Overall:
This is an above average example of a beer in an unforgiving style. The malt is clean, rich, and nicely balanced against a solid noble bitterness. Very much to style, even though the malt ends up a little too sweet from me. Hood River Gold is a tasty version of an export-strength lager, and another winner from Ferment Brewing Company.
