It starts with a good pour to empty the contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter. There is an overly generous light biege head produced, but not to a complaint. A brew nearly black coffee in color lays beneath. The added vanilla outdoes the basic roasted barley and mild hops contributions to the aroma. To taste, the standard porter characteristics catch up to the vanilla, giving this a pleasantly flavored porter. Most importantly, it's not too sweet. It may be appreciably sweet than a typical porter, but the vanilla inclusion is appropriate in measure, enough to establish itself, but not overpowering. So, this is not a dessert beer. The vanilla here actually augments the porter taste, maybe to the point of disguising the shortcomings, were this a not flavor added concoction. Behind the tasteful inclusion of vanilla, there's nothing notable about this porter. There's no richness, nor complexity to the roasted barley backbone. The mouthfeel is thin, even for a style that naturally runs so. Very sparse glass lacing attests to that. Overall, it's a pleasant hit of a malted vanilla beer, without much more to offer regarding depth, nor bldy.
