Poured from 330mL can into a tall kitchen glass. Best by 3/11/23. The can calls this an "Ethiopian style coffee stout".
Appearance: rich dark-brown hue with limited light let through. The head was a finger of fizzy foam which dissipated pretty quickly, leaving the impression of a kvass or cola; I wonder if the coffee oils are what make the head so minimal? But the color is nice.
Smell: a sweet malt aroma that has hints of chocolate and caramel, plus a huge coffee aroma that cuts through all of it. It smells like a really good iced coffee -- which is basically what you would expect from a coffee stout, so I guess it's pretty good!
Taste: like in the aroma, the malt is sweet, but has a nice caramel/toffee character. The coffee is strong, though perhaps not as strong as in the aroma, but offers a vegetal character and kind of throws off the balance a little. It might even be safe to say the coffee is overdone in this beer.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a moderate carbonation. It takes a second, but the texture is pretty good and there is a reasonable creaminess here.
Overall: it's a pretty good coffee stout, if imbalanced. I definitely do appreciate, though, that while it is somewhat sweet, it is not an overly-sweet pastry-coffee bomb.
