From first barrel-aging. 750 mL bottle. Aged 1 year in Wild Turkey bourbon barrels. Brewed with cocoa nibs, ancho chilies, Vietnamese and Ceylon cinnamon.
A: Pours an extremely dark brown hue with 1/2 inch dark tan head with decent retention settling to a thin skim.
S: Cinnamon, cocoa, sweet bourbon, dark roasted malt, and a subtle hint of chili heat.
T: Cinnamon and dry cocoa dominate the palate. Sweet bourbon and dark roasted malt are in the background. With warming and getting a bit further than a sip or two into it, the chili heat hits. Not too much though. The level of heat is perfect.
M: Medium body...was expecting more heft from such a potent brew. Spicy cinnamon, chili heat, and dark sweetness are all strong notes, but in good balance. Lingers nicely on the palate.
D: An interesting sipper to be sure. Strong notes, but well balanced. Would be good to amp up the body a bit.
