Appearance: Pours a mostly opaque (20% clarity), deep brown to bronzed color with a strong tan head. SRM of 20-21. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong aromas of chocolate, dark malt, bread notes. More chocolate with a slight earthiness follows. (4.00)
Flavor: Strong flavors of chocolate, dark bread, smooth bread malts. A light earthy note with hints of floral hops. Moderate roast in the middle before a smooth, and moderately sweet chocolate finish. (4.00)
Feel: Medium-bodied, average carbonation, slightly less than expected. Sweet on the finish with a mild roast. (3.75)
Overall: Interesting Dunkelweizen here, or I'd hardly call it that. Rich chocolate and bread notes with a light roast. Not much German bread spices or wheat notes. Could maybe call it a dunkel, but it leans more toward a Porter with the chocolate sweetness and roast. Decent for a Porter I'd say, just not to style. (Rating: 3.93)
