Pours black with a still look. Head formation is near null. Some oily legs form on the glass after a swirl.
Aroma is roasty, toasty malts with strong spices behind. Coffee is present, but mild, carrying the same strength as the barrel note. Complexity is great, with coffee accenting the spices well. Barrel character brings a little extra depth and strength.
Flavor profile is spices, coffee, and roasty and toasty malts. Spices are sharp, carrying over the coffee notes at the start, but coffee lingers through the finish. Chocolate mixes through the middle, adding a little further sweetness. Barrel character develops some extra strength and oomph in the middle parts without warping the flavor profile with excessive heat.
Mouth feel is still in effervescence, or at least, very lightly and softly effervescent. Thickness is full and thick. Together, it drinks big, but not heavy due to the still texture.
Overall, big time spice notes, which carry over from the base Tezcatlipoca, with some coffee and barrel mingled through the middle. It's easy to drink, but lacks some of the coffee forwardness that the name implies.
Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 16oz can.
