Birrificio Zapap "CH'APA"
33 cl can; "DA CONSUMARSI PREFERIBILIMENTE ENTRO IL/LOTTO: 10/2026 L65/2025"
Look: A hazy deep amber body is capped by a finger's width of white foam that holds well and leaves some decent lacing behind.
Smell: The aroma delivers citrusy hops (mainly grapefruit) over a lightly bready and sweetish malt base.
Taste: There's far more grapefruit than the aroma suggests in the taste over a thinner maltiness. The malt is bready/toasty and lightly biscuity with a caramel edge and some apple-like fruitiness. A firm bitterness leaves it dry in the finish.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp.
Overall: While it has a good deal of citrusy hops in both the aroma and flavor it's not an IPA to be reckoned with, but neither is it an IPA to be ignored. It delivers on the goods but it doesn't take it past the goal line in terms of complexity - that, to me, is OK, and I'd call this an excellent go-to IPA.
