Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a 12oz snifter, near black with cola brown edging. Some broken lines and spotting make up the lacing.
Smell - Chocolatey. sweet. Faint coffee.
Taste - Ehh. Chocolate upfront, but quickly overrun by sugar and medicinal cough syrup- like character (cherry flavored?). Hint of coffee, but this is not jiving.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Lightly creamy texture makes this an easy drinker if you can look past the flavor.
Overall - Bold attempt, but falls short. Sickly sweet to the point its almost has a cough syrup character. I think I'll pass on giving it another try.
