Had on tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - One pint served up in an oversized tulip, cloudy and straw yellow in color with a mostly barren surface and a thin, broken ring around the edge of the glass. Good amount of lacing with intricate webbing and spotting.
Smell - Melon and papaya with hints of anise, wood and vanilla.
Taste - Follows the nose. Some mild tropical notes upfront, melon and papaya, but then Im picking up some solid anise notes mid-taste. Faint vanilla and wood. Anise character picks up on the finish and dominates much of the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Slick, easy drinker before a mostly dry finish.
Overall - Strange beer. I like anise, especially in absinthe, but in a beer? Might take some getting used to. The experimental hop used here was recently names Lotus, so I'll keep an eye out for it.
