Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up 8oz into an 11oz snifter, murky and dark orange in color with a mostly barren surface and a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. No lacing.
Smell - A little disjointed at first, with polarizing notes of whiskey and sweet, slightly sour pickle. Aroma gels as it warms, adding a nice oak and vanilla character that bridges the gap.
Taste - Tastes much better than it smells. Mostly a briney, pickle sourness with hints of oak, vanilla and a faint touch of bourbon booziness. Aftertaste is mostly the same as the aftertaste as when you eat a pickle, minus the lingering traces of the bourbon character.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Slick, easy drinker before a dry finish.
Overall - Interesting brew for sure, and one hell of an idea, and while they pulled it off, it doesn't quite do it for me. I love pickle juice, but in a beer?
