Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a large tulip, near black in color with cola brown edging. Thin, broken layer of surface suds with a fair ring around the edge of the glass. lacing is so-so, with some thin webs, broken lines and small spotting decorating the glass.
Smell - Roast and chocolate hit the nose first, with lesser caramel and and faint, general malt sweetness.
Taste - Follows the nose. Plenty of roast and chocolate upfront and throughout, while a touch of char adds some depth. A solid caramel base helps to balance the roast, making for an even-keeled finish.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Smooth, slightly creamy body makes this a nice, easy drinker.
Overall - Really wonderful classic American Porter. Hits on just about everything you want and expect in the style.
