Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up into a 10.z tulip, black/deep cola brown in color with a mostly barren surface and a thin, broken ring around the edge of the glass. A thin strand of lace runs horizontally near the top of the glass, with a few streaks running vertically.
Smell - Strong chocolate and coconut aroma, with lesser macadamia, vanilla and coffee.
Taste - Follows the nose. Deep, deep fudgy chocolate base with a strong coconut presence upfront and throughout. Mid-taste brings the vanilla and a touch of macadamia nut strengthening near the finish before a mild coffee roast rounds out the experience.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low carbonation. Smooth, creamy drinker before getting a bit sticky in the finish.
Overall - A deep, complex and smooth pastry stout. A sure sipper with the richness and alcohol coming in at a strong 12%, but man is it good.
