Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Tan, finger width head that fizzles away before giving way to a mostly barren surface and a razor thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. A handful of small spots make up the lacing.
Smell - Chocolate syrup aroma, with a hint of vanilla, oak and bourbon.
Taste - Follows the nose. Super chocolatey upfront and throughout, with lesser vanilla sweetness to break up that richness. A touch of oak mid-taste further breaks up that chocolate, then a kiss of bourbon on the finish.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with light carbonation. Silky, creamy texture before a semi-dry finish.
Overall - I came into this 'Zombie' series thinking the coconut variant would be my runaway favorite, but surprisingly it was the vanilla. This chocolate one was about on par with expectations. A bit more barrel influence would have been nice, but I'm nitpicking. Its a great stout.
